Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility and subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

1 Peter 5:5 · Humility
Reflection 1

Getting dressed is something we do every single morning without even thinking about it. But Peter reminds us that there is one crucial piece of clothing we need to intentionally put on before we face the day: humility. It isn't always our natural go-to outfit, especially in a world that tells us to promote ourselves and constantly prove our worth.

Reflection 2

In practical terms, wearing humility means changing how we interact with the people around us. It looks like truly listening to a coworker's idea instead of immediately pushing your own, or choosing not to have the last word in a disagreement with your spouse. It is the quiet, everyday strength of putting someone else's needs right up there with your own.

Reflection 3

The beautiful promise here is that when we choose the low road of humility, we aren't left undefended. God Himself steps in to give us grace, offering His favor and strength when we let go of our need to be right or in control. Today, try looking for just one opportunity to step back and let someone else shine, trusting that God sees your heart and will honor your obedience.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to intentionally put on humility today, even when my pride wants to take over. Show me practical ways to serve and listen to the people around me. Thank You for the beautiful grace You pour out when I choose to let go of my ego. Amen.
