And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 · Forgiveness
Reflection 1

Forgiving someone who hurt us is rarely our first instinct. When we feel wronged, it is so much easier to hold onto anger and build a wall to protect ourselves. But holding a grudge usually ends up weighing us down and hurting us more than the person who caused the pain.

Reflection 2

That is why we are encouraged to look at how we have been treated by God when we mess up. We aren't asked to forgive because the other person necessarily deserves it, but because we have been given endless grace ourselves. Remembering our own flaws and the mercy we have received helps soften our hearts toward the flaws of others.

Reflection 3

Today, think about a small offense you can choose to let go of. Maybe it is a rude comment from a coworker, a frustrating driver, or a simple misunderstanding with a family member. Instead of snapping back or rehearsing the offense in your head, take a deep breath and deliberately choose kindness.

Reflection 4

You do not have to become best friends with everyone who wrongs you, but you can choose to release the bitterness. Let God's incredible patience with you be the fuel for how you treat people today. A tender heart is a strong heart, and forgiveness is the key to keeping it free.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for the incredible grace and forgiveness You show me every single day. Please soften my heart and help me offer that same kindness to the people around me, especially when it is hard. Amen.
