Holding onto a grudge is often compared to drinking poison and hoping the other person gets sick. It feels justified in the moment when someone hurts us, but resentment only builds a heavy wall around our own hearts. Jesus takes this a step further by connecting our willingness to forgive others directly to our own relationship with God.

But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Think about a time recently when you were wronged, like when a coworker took credit for your work or a family member made a cutting remark. Our natural instinct is to hold onto that offense as a shield to protect ourselves from future pain. But God asks us to drop the shield and extend the very same grace we rely on Him for every single day.
Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending the hurt didn't happen or letting people walk all over you. It simply means releasing the emotional debt they owe you so you can finally step into peace. Today, take a quiet moment to ask God to highlight any hidden resentment in your heart, and make the brave choice to let it go.
Dear Lord, thank You for the endless grace and mercy You pour out on me even when I mess up. Please soften my heart and give me the courageous strength to fully forgive those who have hurt me. Help me to release my bitterness so I can truly walk in Your freedom today. Amen.
